چکیده
In this paper, linearisation of transmitter and receiver nonlinearities of an optical Intensity Modulation/Direct Detection system using digital signal processing is presented and analysed. The system performance is estimated on basis of the signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio. Furthermore, the bit error performance of a linearised system is compared to a non-linearised one.

Modelling and Influences of Transmitter and Receiver Nonlinearities in Optical OFDM Transmission
In this paper, the main sources of nonlinear distortions for back-to-back (B2B) transmission in an Intensity Modulation/Direct Detection (IM/DD) fiber optical system are presented. The nonlinear characteristics are modelled and their impact on an OFDM signal are described by means of stochastic considerations. Furthermore, the dependence of nonlinear distortions on tunable key parameters of the...
متن کاملSignal Optimization During Radio Links Between a Transmitter and a Receiver Located in Adjacent Material Media with Differing Optical Densities (TECHNICAL NOTE)
Signal optimization is affected during radio links between a transmitter and a receiver located in adjacent material media with differing optical densities. The optimization is carried out via the automated control theory method. The radio signal obtained after the optimization is coordinated with the two media's electrical characteristics simultaneously; and this enables low power and small an...
متن کاملPerformance of Optical OFDM systems using new PAPR Reduction approach
The major drawback of optical orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDM) system is their inherent intensity noise and peak average power ratio (PAPR). We introduce a new direct detection receiver based on PAPR reduction for optical OFDMA systems that maintains greater noise mitigating and leaves spectral efficiency unchanged. Unlike standard receivers, our scheme does not filter the d...

The existing radio frequency (RF) technology standards, i.e. the IEEE...
متن کاملTheoretical and experimental investigation of compatible SSB modulation for single channel long-distance optical OFDM transmission.
We present the first experimental demonstration of compatible single-sideband (compatible-SSB) modulated OFDM optical system at 11.1Gb/s data rate for long distance transmission over 675 km uncompensated standard single-mode fiber. Compatible-SSB modulation employing a simple dual-drive Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM) in the transmitter and direct-detection at the receiver provides an OFDM system ...
